Our Family Star
Robert and I will share our eleventh Christmas tomorrow. I recall our first Christmas together. We had little money, and I wanted our time together to be special. I purchased this star at the Dollar Store. After getting the tree decorated ( and before the tree fell), I brought out the star. I never intended to keep the star. I wanted something inexpensive, and didn't want the top of our tree bare. Robert strongly disliked the star. The two of us spat over the star for quite awhile. After arguing for a few minutes, Robert relented, and put the star on the tree. The next year I bought a fiber optic angel, and was excited to have something Robert might like better. To my surprise, Robert wanted to use the star. So again, we had another small spat, and I relented and up went the star. Somehow this one dollar star has become a family heirloom. We wouldn't dream of using anything else to finalize the beauty of our Christmas tree. The star is all our boys remember, they don't recall the bickering surrounding the star. All they remember is the star! Each year the kids take turns putting up the star. Our little, plastic, gold star is special to our family. Each year the star reminds us of our love. Our star has followed us to new homes, observed how our love for each other has grown and been introduced to our 4 little miracles (our children). Thank you little star, for a simple reminder to count our blessings every year! Merry Christmas!
