Beautiful Emma
Does God care about my hair? Silly question? Maybe! I ask God questions on a regular basis. At times I get a response and other times NOTHING. While living in Korea hair dressers are hard to come by. There are hair salons everywhere, but mostly Korean. Most of which can cut hair well, but few can color a foreigners hair. Let alone a blond! Here is the story: I walk in and ask if they can highlight my hair, and they say no. I leave and think maybe the next time. In the meantime I fret about the outgrown roots. In these moments I think about the comforts of life in America. Knowing there are many places I can easily get a highlight. After worrying about my hair for several months, while walking around Handae I meet a Korean woman. She came to me out of nowhere. She said "I studied in Paris and have a lot of experience cutting foreigners hair. I am opening a new shop right across the street called Cateleya." Wow!!! Was it an answer to my prayer? No! Actually I refuse to pray about such vain topics. Thinking... God has more important things to do than find me a hair dresser.
God gave us ladies an innate desire to be beautiful. Our family friends have three daughters. Their daughters and our three boys get along well. While having dinner at their house. Their four year old daughter disappears. She returns in a beautiful dress and asks her mama to put her hair up. My friend says, "Why did you put on a dress?" Emma replies " I want to look beautiful for Robby and Christopher!" My friend and I looked at each other in amazement. She heads back to the playroom to show off for my boys. A few minutes later she returns in a sad state. Her mama says "What's wrong, Emma?" She repiles' "Robby and Christopher didn't notice my dress!" Wow!!! She was four and felt the need to be beautiful. Women of all ages want men to find us attractive. Especially our husbands. We are God's creation! He created us with a desire to be beautiful.
My heart aches as I contemplate a friend who is fighting cancer, and has experienced losing her hair two times. Does God care about her hair? He doesn't care about her hair, he cares about her heart. Through the process of losing her hair, her heart aches. God knows the pain in her heart as she shaves her head. He knows fear deep within. He is there beside her and His heart breaks. I picture tears flowing from God's eyes as He watches his baby girl suffer. He doesn't care about worldly things such as hair, money, cars, houses, etc... He cares about the hearts of His children.

What does it mean to be beautiful? True beauty is found in the heart and penetrates the whole body. I have known many women in my 32 years of life. I love developing friendships with older, wiser, and gentle Godly women. I find these women fascinating. A special lady I know is Gretchen Wilson. She is one of the most beautiful women I know. She is beautiful inside and out. The beauty that attracts me to her is her inner beauty. Her love for God, the people she meets, and the world around her. Evangelism permeates throughout her entire life. To me she is beauty!

Does God care about my hair? Doubtful...! He does however care about my heart. He died for my heart. I pray I remain faithful to Him in every aspect of my life. I desire to be beautiful because of God shining in my life. I pray that as I grow older and my outward beauty continues to fade, the inner beauty of the Lord will shine for all to see.
